Solas Systems > Frequently Asked Question

Will the water ever get too hot? / Is there a risk of scalding?
No. All our systems are fitted with a thermostatic mixing valve (or 'anti-scald' valve) as standard, so the water coming out of your hot water taps is set to a standard temperature.

What situations might mean that there would be extra costs?
Extra costs can be incurred if panels have to be fitted to walls (ie. a south facing gable end) or a flat roof. Scaffolding costs vary depending on whether a tower can be used or bespoke scaffolding is needed. A loft conversion or an unusual amount of additional pipe work will also incur additional costs. We will assess any extra costs that may be incurred during the free site survey.

What controls the pumping station?
The pumping station is fully controlled by the digital controller which monitors the temperature in the solar panels and the hot water cylinder. When the panels can give heat it will run the pump. When there is not enough heat, the pump remains off. Therefore the panels will never cool the water in the cylinder.
