Can the solar panel / collector be fitted in any direction, on any roof? The solar panels need to face in a southerly direction (ideally somewhere between southeast and southwest). For optimum efficiency, they should be fitted on a sloping roof. Can the solar panel / collector be fitted onto a flat roof or a gable end? Yes, but the panel must be mounted onto a special frame, and extra pipe work may be needed. There may be an additional cost, which we can explain during the free site survey. Will I be able to fit a solar water heating system into a loft conversion? In some cases it is possible to incorporate solar heating with a loft conversion. However it can be impractical, depending on where the pipes will connect between the collectors and the hot water cylinder. Ask yourself: will the pipes come out into the room? And is there access to connect pipes to the hot water cylinder? More detailed analysis of the work required and the suitability of the installation of a solar water heating system in a loft conversion can be fully assessed during the free site survey. Will I need planning permission? No. In the Republic of Ireland, planning permission is not required by any planning authorities for solar heating systems of any type. Does your system need much maintenance? No. A solar water heating system requires much less maintenance than any conventional boiler. Once a system is fitted and commissioned, we will give you details of the simple maintenance checks that you can undertake to make sure everything is working properly. |
